Job summary

Yellowknives Dene First Nation is seeking a Shuttle Driver located in Dettah to provide timely and safe transportation for community members between Dettah residences, offices and access roads. You will maintain the shuttle, follow safety procedures and support related programs as required.

Purpose:

The Shuttle Drivers’ are part of the YKDFN Public Works and Infrastructure team and work’s closely to ensure timely and safe transportation to Dettah residences, offices and residence on the Dettah access road.This position is located in Dettah.

SCOPE OF WORK

Under the authority of the YKDFN Government Chiefs and Council and under the direct supervision of the A/Director, Public Works & Infrastructure, the Shuttle Driver’s main responsibility are to ensure timely and safe transportation for Dettah residences, offices and Dettah access roads are met.In addition, the incumbent’s responsibility are to maintain the shuttle bus in good operating condition and to follow all required safety procedures.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

The Shuttle Driver performs the following duties:

1.) Transportation Services

• Develop the most effective shuttle route for pick-up and drop-off of community members.
• Ensure the health and safety of passengers.
• Inspect the vehicle daily to ensure there are no personal belongings left on the shuttle.
• Purchase fuel for the vehicle, transport and deliver supplies for the administration program as required and arrange in advance for a purchase order;
• Ensure receipts are submitted to finance after each purchase.
• Assist with the recreation department activities as instructed by the program manager.
• Remove ice and snow from the Dettah complex front entrance and surrounding areas, especially after snowfall.
• Write incident reports regarding when passengers do not follow safety rules and regulations (i.e. not wearing seat belt, etc.).
• Other duties required by the Program Manager.

2) Vehicle Maintenance.

• maintenance and minor repairs of the water truck and equipment.
• perform daily check-up of the water truck, as per vehicle check list.
• report required water truck repairs and maintenance with the Public Works Supervisor.
• as and when required, deliver and pick-up the water truck at the repair shop.
• as and when required, wash the water truck and other equipment.
• perform other Public Works duties as assigned by the Public Works Supervisor.
• Ensure the vehicle is properly maintained (following the manufacturer’s instructions regarding oil changes, etc.). The Shuttle Driver will regularly service the vehicle.
• Clean the vehicle on a daily basis.

3.) Occupational Safety.

• at all times, adhere to the 70 km/hour Ingraham Trail speed limit, the 60 km/hour Dettah road speed limit and 20 km/hour speed limit within the Dettah community boundaries.
• adhere to the seasonal GNWT vehicle load restrictions.
• approach all customer homes with caution so as to not cause damage to the home and equipment or vehicles parked near the home.
• report all hazardous water delivery conditions to the home owner, the Public Works Supervisor or (in case of public housing) the YKDFN Housing Division.

4.) Other duties as assigned by the A/Director, Public Works and Infrastructure.
