Job summary

Solid Ground Earthworks Ltd. is seeking a motivated Gradesman to join our excavation team in the Lower Mainland. You will read and interpret drawings, establish grades, and work with laser levels to ensure precise elevations.

With a minimum of 2 years in excavation or civil construction, you will collaborate with heavy equipment operators, follow project specs, and contribute to daily crew meetings. Valid driver's license required and strong attention to safety.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in excavation, grading, or civil construction.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and elevations.
• Experience using laser levels and grade-checking equipment.
• Knowledge of excavation methods, underground servicing, and site grading.
• Ability to work independently with heavy equipment operators.
• Valid driver's license.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Good verbal communication and a proactive attitude.
• Experience with GPS machine control and survey equipment is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret construction drawings, grading plans, and elevations.
• Establish and verify grades, elevations, benchmarks, and layout points.
• Utilize laser levels and grade-checking equipment to ensure accuracy.
• Work closely with excavator operators to maintain proper excavation depths and grades.
• Check elevations for foundations, footings, trenches, and underground services.
• Assist with layout and grading for site preparation, backfilling, and civil works.
• Identify and communicate discrepancies between drawings and actual site conditions.
• Ensure excavation and grading activities meet project specifications and tolerances.
• Assist with general site activities as required.
• Actively participate in daily and weekly crew meetings.
