Job description

DNSnetworks is seeking an experienced Level 2 - Technical Support Engineer who thrives on solving diverse challenges in unique environments. Working collaboratively, the candidate will contribute to operations through timely technical solutions supporting the service delivery and operations team. This role offers opportunities to influence project deliverables, including data collection, processing, and analysis in support of DNSnetworks investigations.

Successful candidates will benefit from continuous learning, with opportunities to develop, maintain, and enhance technical skills. Exposure to specialized security, cloud, infrastructure, and application technologies is also provided.

The main responsibilities of the Technical Support Engineer include:
  1. Supporting, designing, developing, enhancing, and implementing computer application systems and programs.
  2. Evaluating existing computer systems' performance, planning and directing upgrades, troubleshooting, testing, and resolving issues.
  3. Providing recommendations to improve IT systems and services.
  4. Supporting, administering, configuring, and installing software and hardware products and systems.
  5. Implementing new products or upgrades within a network operating system environment, assessing feasibility, cost/benefit, and impact on clients.
  6. Collaborating with clients, including senior management and external vendors, to resolve issues and plan next steps.
  7. Developing, evaluating, and testing new technologies.
  8. Providing 24/7 first-tier management and support.
  9. Managing access to all IT network services.
  10. Ensuring changes to the IT infrastructure are properly managed.
  11. Managing configuration processes.
Required technical experience includes:
  1. Understanding of IP networking basics: TCP/IP, Subnetting, OSI layers, routing protocols like OSPF, BGP, MPLS, multicast protocols, etc.
  2. Experience with switching and data center technologies such as VLAN, STP, VXLAN, IP-Fabric.
  3. Proficiency with network traffic analysis tools and troubleshooting skills for complex network scenarios.
  4. Preference for experience with Juniper products (MX, PTX, QFX, EX, SRX).
  5. Knowledge of operating system architectures (Unix, FreeBSD), virtualization, hardware components, scripting languages, and network services like DHCP, DNS.
Educational qualifications:

An undergraduate degree, Technologist diploma, or equivalent in Computer Science, Network Security, or Telecommunications from an accredited institution recognized in Canada. International credentials require proof of Canadian equivalency.

Experience requirements:
  • At least 1 year relevant experience for degree holders.
  • 2 years relevant experience for Technologist diploma holders.
  • Underfill candidates with less experience may be considered if they meet additional training and objectives.
Additional expertise areas include:
  • Collaboration tools, desktop support, network operations, access management, change/release management, configuration management, network/security specialists, telephony, server/storage, problem management, QA, enterprise tools, IT security, and soft skills like adaptability and problem-solving.
Location requirements:
  • This position is for residents of Ottawa, ON, and Gatineau, QC.
Preferred attributes:
  • Driver's license, affinity for dogs, office environment familiarity, willingness to go on-site for deployment and troubleshooting.
