Job summary

Halton Healthcare is seeking an Exercise Instructor for the Cardiac Rehab Program in Oakville, Ontario. The role focuses on exercise instruction, program development, and patient progression within a collaborative team.

Responsibilities include patient goal setting, progress assessments, and education for patients and families, all while maintaining safety and hospital policies during rotating 12-hour shifts. This temporary part-time position supports 18 months of service.

Qualifications

• Health related College diploma including exercise prescription/progression within Rehab
• Minimum of 3 years direct exercise instructional/progression experience with Cardiac Rehab population
• ACSM Exercise Specialist certification or equivalent preferred or in progress
• Working knowledge of adult learning principles and coaching techniques
• Ability to establish effective relationships with patients and team members
• Experience organizing and overseeing large volumes of patients in a short period of time

Responsibilities

• Provide exercise instruction and contribute to development and evaluation of the Cardiac Rehab Program service model
• Assess and plan patient goals, progress, and reassessment with the team
• Ensure program standards of care and complete patient care documentation
• Facilitate patient/family education using adult education principles and motivational interviewing

Job Description

As an Exercise Instructor, your primary duties will include: providing exercise instruction and assisting with the ongoing development and evaluation of the service model of the Cardiac Rehab Program including exercise class structure, educational information, progression of patients’ exercise programs and organizing reassessment testing; ensuring consistency in approach for patients by assessing and identifying patients goals, planning, implementing and evaluating patients’ progress with other team members; practicing within the program’s standards of care; performing patient care documentation in accordance with professional standards (as applicable) and hospital policy; participating and facilitating patient/family education utilizing adult education principles and motivational interviewing; complying with and committing to patient safety responsibilities and corresponding hospital policies and procedures, including responding to emergencies; ensuring a safe environment for all patients and staff/volunteers.

Qualifications

• Health related College diploma at minimum required and/or Baccalaureate Degree in a regulated health profession preferred. Required education program must include exercise prescription/progression within Rehab
• Minimum of 3 years direct exercise instructional/progression related experience with Cardiac Rehab type population
• Excellent goal setting, exercise progression and assessment skills
• BCLS required
• ACSM Exercise Specialist certification or equivalent preferred or in progress
• Working knowledge of adult learning principles and coaching techniques
• Ability to establish effective relationships with patients and team members
• Experience with organizing, coordinating and overseeing large volumes of patients in a short period of time
• Proven ability to multitask, prioritize, and leverage sound clinical decision-making
• Well-developed negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proven ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
• Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word and Power Point

Hours:Monday to Sunday, Rotating 9 and 12 hours (hours are subject to change based on operational needs)

Salary: $32.491 to 37.398 per hour
