Interior Health Authority seeks an innovative Executive Medical Director, Clinical Informatics to lead technology-enabled care and data-driven clinical decision support across IH. Qualifications

This role is a 0.80 FTE. The hourly rate for the position is $108.13 to $148.68. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:

The Executive Medical Director, Clinical Informatics (Executive Medical Director) is responsible for the medical leadership that advances the implementation of technology enabled medical and clinical information management solutions to improve quality outcomes for patients.

Reporting to the Vice President, Health Technology and Clinical Services, the Executive Medical Director works in partnership with the Clinical Operations EMD's, Medical Affairs, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and the Health Technology (HT) team to engage with medical staff and translate clinician requirements into clinician useful information systems. The Executive Medical Director provides direction and leadership in the design, development, and implementation of computerized provider order entry; provides leadership and advice to the clinical informatics, health information management and analytics departments. The Executive Medical Director fulfills the role of physician and clinician advocate while supporting Interior Health management in promoting the development, approval and adoption of standards, processes, and information technology solutions in the clinical setting. The Executive Medical Director also represents Interior Health on various councils and provincial steering committees.

What will you work on:

• In partnership with the CNO is responsible for leading and coordinating the development and implementation of policy and practice standards and the related processes to successfully integrate evidence based clinical standards of care, documentation standards, and clinical order sets into clinical practice.
• Participates and engages the medical staff to support the development of policy, practice standards, and related workflows/processes; information system design, adoption and meaningful use is integrated in clinical practice.
• Engages members of the interdisciplinary health care team and other key partners, through effective change management leadership, to emphasize focus on clinical needs, maximize the adoption.
• Engages patient care providers with varying roles including physicians, nursing practitioners, nursing staff, ancillary department personnel, and health records professionals to contribute to the efficient development and effective use of the clinical information systems.
• Identifies risk management strategies to mitigate issues/risks to achieve short, medium, and long-term objectives, strategies, plans, and programs to optimize service, improve patient experience, and meet Interior Health strategic objectives.
• Leads collaborative work to standardize best practice clinical alerts clinical decision supports and patient safety surveillance within clinical information systems.
• Ensures programs, services and projects are designed, integrated, operated, and reported on in terms of efficiency, effectiveness, and attainment of established goals and objectives.
• Reviews medical informatics trends, experiences, and approaches, develops technical and application implementation strategies and assists in the development of the DH project plans.
• Sponsors and leads the development, design and implementation of data and information workflows for patient safety priorities such as computerized provider order entry and electronic provider documentation.
• Represents Interior Health by developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners to address issues, share information, and promote partnerships.
• Collaborates and participates with the Divisions of Family Practice, other BC Health Authorities, Ministry, and provincial and national organizations on approved initiatives.
• In alignment with IH's Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualfications

Education, Training, and Experience

• Medical Degree (MD) with current (or eligible for) full registration and licensure to practice medicine from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
• A Master's degree in health administration, business administration or clinical informatics or related discipline.
• Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years recent, related clinical leadership experience in the health care sector including experience with electronic clinical systems.
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
