The Government of Alberta's Forestry and Parks Ministry in Edmonton seeks an Executive Director, Capital Infrastructure Development and Implementation (CIDI) to lead the Crown Land Infrastructure Capital Development Program. Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Parks Division, the Executive Director, Capital Infrastructure Development and Implementation (CIDI), is accountable for the strategic, operational, and tactical leadership of the Crown Land Infrastructure Capital Development Program. This role oversees the planning, development, and renewal of outdoor recreation infrastructure across Alberta's parks and public lands, ensuring safe, accessible, and enjoyable experiences for Albertans and visitors. The Capital Program supports a diverse range of infrastructure, from day-use areas, trails, campgrounds, and boat launches to complex facilities such as the Canmore Nordic Centre. The Executive Director provides strategic leadership for infrastructure planning and delivery across Alberta and is responsible for an annual capital budget of approximately $90 million.

In this role, the Executive Director leads and provides direction to three units: capital infrastructure planning, capital project delivery and capital systems coordination. The units consist of professional and technical staff that are located across the province. The Executive Director oversees major capital renewal, replacement, and new development projects. The position provides sound advice to the Assistant Deputy Minister and departmental executive team and contributes to strategic decision-making on capital infrastructure priorities, policies, and investments. As a member of the Parks Division executive leadership team, the Executive Director helps shape divisional and departmental priorities, provides leadership on capital infrastructure issues affecting Alberta Parks and Lands, and contributes to broader ministry initiatives through cross-ministry committees, task forces, and strategic projects.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is an accomplished leader with senior leadership experience overseeing complex capital infrastructure programs and large-scale project delivery. They possess strong knowledge of capital programs and the legislation and regulations governing Alberta's provincial parks, public lands, and land management systems, as well as the technical awareness required to support infrastructure planning, development, and delivery. The successful candidate brings strategic thinking, political acumen, and strong stakeholder management skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a complex environment. Experience managing significant budgets, infrastructure assets, and partnerships across government and external organizations is essential. A proven track record in financial management, combined with strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, will be critical to success in this role.

A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Applied Science, or Engineering is required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

$5,896.65 - $7,749.28 bi-weekly ($153,902 - $202,256 yearly)

Notes

The position is traditionally located in Edmonton. Travel within the province will be required as part of your responsibilities.
