Job summary

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is seeking an Events and Internal Engagement Student in Vancouver. You will support planning and execution of employee events, assist with data collection for post-event reports, and help administer employee experience programs.

The role offers hybrid work with some flexibility for remote work one day per week. The position is a full-time, temporary student opportunity, paying $25.00 per hour under ILWU Local 517.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate student in Business or Social Sciences.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; Canva experience.
• Preference for experience in employee engagement, events, or analytics.
• Driver's license: Class 5 or 7.

Responsibilities

• Assist planning and delivery of staff events such as awards luncheons and holiday parties.
• Collect data for post-event reports and provide recommendations.
• Support administration of employee experience programs and recognition initiatives.
• Coordinate vendors and design communications; manage event setup and teardown.
• Support large external events and provide overtime support as needed.

As the Events and Internal Engagement Student, you will report to the Manager of Events and Experience on a variety of meaningful projects that will challenge your creative and project management skills.
What Success Looks Like

• Assist the team in the planning and delivery of port authority employee activities and events, including the Long Service Awards Luncheon, Take Our Kids to Work Day, United Way campaign and the Annual Holiday Party
• Support the collection of event data for post-event reports, participate in the review and feedback process on event successes and recommendations for future improvements.
• Support the administration of employee experience programs at the port, including the recognition program, community volunteering program, co-op student engagement, and other related initiatives.
• Coordinate vendor relationships, consult with internal stakeholders, build and design communications, support event set-up and take down, and conduct post-implementation reviews.
• Collect event data for post-event reports, providing feedback on the event successes and recommendations for future improvements.
• Support large external events alongside the Events and Experience team, as required
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• The successful candidate will be a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in Business, Social Sciences, or a related program.
• You will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• You will demonstrate proficiency in computer skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), along with experience using design platforms like Canva
• Preference will be provided to students with experience in employee engagement, people and culture, marketing, event planning, market research, and/or reporting on analytics.
• Preference will be given to candidates possessing a class 5 or class 7 driver’s license

Salary: The starting rate for this position is $25.00 per hour, in accordance with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 517 collective agreement. Based on a 37.5 hour work week.
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Job type: Bargaining Unit, Full-Time, Temporary (Student), Hybrid
Working environment: Normal office conditions primarily during regular daytime working hours. The successful candidate will have the option of working remotely from home one day a week. Access to internet connection and an appropriate, private environment is required. Typical hours of work are Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate may be requested to support additional events or work occasional overtime, including evenings and weekends.
