Job summary

Initiatives For Just Communities Inc. (IJC) Eastman program seeks a part-time Drop In Service Coordinator to support adults with intellectual disabilities. The role blends administrative tasks with direct support, ensuring staffing resources and program activities run smoothly in the Mitchell, MB area.

The position offers evening hours, occasional day meetings, and potential DSP supervision in the future. A starting wage is CAD 21.30 per hour with an on-call rotation and a three-month probation

Qualifications

• Three years or more of post-secondary education in a related social services field or the equivalent in work experience.
• Grade 12 or equivalency.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build working relationships, manage conflict, and provide direction.
• Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate in a clear and effective manner.
• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to draft correspondence in a clear and effective manner.
• Strong desire to work with individuals who live with intellectual disabilities.
• Excellent critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
• Demonstrate cultural competence and understanding of diversity, inclusivity, and equity issues.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.
• Ability to assess risk, setting and modelling safe & appropriate boundaries.
• Intermediate level computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, including Sharepoint.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, including adhering to PHIA and FIPPA.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle work-related stress.
• Ability to exercise patience and flexibility.
• Participation in training opportunities and willingness to learn and adapt to new processes or procedures.
• Understanding of the issues and challenges associated with intellectual disabilities and FASD.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and run programming for the Drop In, ensuring programming is engaging and aligned with supported individual needs and interests.
• Prepare food with supported individuals, and/or for event nights.
• Anticipate decreased staffing levels or increased program needs, notifying the Program Manager and participating in the hiring process to fill needs.
• Complete and review various reports and documentation, which may include support profiles, Circle of Care Plans, Incident Reports, monthly reports, invoices, leases, housing benefits, hamper applications, etc.
• Handle financial matters both related to individuals receiving supports and employees, which may include financial plans, budgeting, authorizing program spending, and vehicle mileage submissions.
• Ensure compliance with, and gathering necessary feedback on, all legal and organizational requirements, policies, and standards.
• Help create, build, and maintain valued social roles for individuals receiving support.
• Participate in crisis support interventions, sending off incident reports in a timely manner, and responding effectively to individuals receiving support’s needs during emergencies.
• Flag concerns related to individuals receiving supports and initiate appropriate action, collaborating with the team to address challenges proactively.
• Collaborate with Coordinators, Managers, and external stakeholders to coordinate and implement care and support plans, facilitating effective teamwork and communication.
• Provide safe and culturally relevant supports, ensuring that the supports offered respects and aligns with the values, traditions, and needs of the individual.
• Possible direct supervision of DSPs in the future, which would entail meeting with, coaching, performance managing, timesheet approvals, shift report review, and holding DSPs accountable as a supervisor.
