Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or related field; 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in equipment management, fleet, yard operations, or related environments.
  • Strong knowledge of equipment lifecycle management, maintenance planning, procurement, and asset utilization.
  • Experience managing budgets, capital planning, and cost control in a complex operational environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel skills required.
  • Experience with ERP or equipment management systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a strong safety culture across employees, vendors, and customers and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Lead equipment and yard operations, including allocation, warehousing, inventory control, and transport coordination.
  • Develop staff through recruitment, training, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Oversee equipment lifecycle management from procurement to disposal.
  • Ensure equipment reliability through preventive maintenance and coordinated repairs.
  • Manage yard operations and inventory for efficient organization and availability.
  • Develop operating and capital budgets with forecasting and cost control.
  • Lead procurement and vendor management to optimize cost and service.
  • Track equipment performance, utilization, costs, and KPIs for decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance, Procurement, IT, and field teams on planning.
  • Oversee systems and process improvements for tracking, maintenance, and reporting.

The Manager, Equipment and Yard Operations provides leadership to ensure Michels Canada’s equipment fleet and yard operations are safe, efficient, and reliable in support of project delivery across the organization. This role is responsible for the planning and coordination of equipment allocation, maintenance strategy, inventory management, and yard operations, with a strong focus on optimizing cost, utilization, and equipment availability.

In this role, you will lead teams and collaborate across the business to establish clear expectations and foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. You are responsible for ensuring equipment is effectively positioned, maintained, and available when needed, while balancing day-to-day operational demands with long-term asset performance and financial objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining and promoting a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and following all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identifying and communicating workplace hazards and correcting or seeking assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Lead equipment and yard operations, including allocation, warehousing, inventory control, yard management, and transport coordination to support operational needs
  • Manage and develop staff through recruitment, training, performance management, workforce planning, and employee relations
  • Oversee equipment lifecycle management, including procurement, deployment, maintenance planning, utilization, replacement, and disposal
  • Ensure equipment reliability through preventive maintenance programs and coordination of repairs, minimizing downtime and service disruptions
  • Manage yard operations and inventory levels to ensure efficient organization, flow, and equipment availability
  • Develop and manage operating and capital budgets, including forecasting, cost control, and variance analysis
  • Lead procurement and vendor management, including sourcing, contracting, and performance oversight to optimize cost and service
  • Track and report equipment performance, utilization, costs, and KPIs to support decision-making and continuous improvement
  • Maintain equipment rates, lifecycle costing, and financial reporting structures for internal billing and planning
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance, Procurement, IT, and field teams, including participation in estimating and project planning
  • Oversee systems and process improvements for equipment tracking, maintenance, and reporting to ensure accuracy and efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, and equipment standards and support audit requirements and corrective actions
  • Support long-term planning for fleet, yard capacity, and equipment strategy while identifying cost-saving and efficiency opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or related field; equivalent combination of education and 10+ years of relevant experience will be considered
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in equipment management, fleet, yard operations, or related industrial environments
  • Strong knowledge of equipment lifecycle management, maintenance planning, procurement, and asset utilization
  • Experience managing budgets, capital planning, and cost control in a complex operational environment
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive performance, and work across multiple operational stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel skills required
  • Experience with ERP or equipment management systems considered an asset
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as required by company policy
