Job summary

Michels Canada seeks a Project Manager in Toronto to lead construction projects from planning through closeout, ensuring safety, schedule, and budget targets. Reporting to the Project Director, you will coordinate teams including superintendents, subcontractors, and clients, while building strong relationships and delivering quality, compliant work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field.
  • 5–10+ years of construction project management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of contracts, budgeting, scheduling, and safety systems.
  • Proven leadership and ability to handle multiple stakeholders.
  • PMP is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Project Director, the Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivery of construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. The successful candidate will provide leadership to project teams, build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, and ensure all work meets quality, contractual, and regulatory requirements. Success in this role requires a strong commitment to safety, effective leadership, sound decision-making, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced construction environment.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, subcontractors, vendors, and clients, ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Develop and manage project execution plans, including scope, budgets, schedules, resources, and milestones.
  • Provide overall leadership for project delivery from planning through completion and closeout.
  • Coordinate all project activities to ensure safe, efficient execution in accordance with contract requirements and specifications.
  • Lead and align project teams, including Superintendents, subcontractors, consultants, and clients, to achieve project objectives.
  • Ensure alignment between field execution and project goals, including schedule, cost, quality, and productivity performance.
  • Lead workforce planning and resource allocation in coordination with Superintendents to ensure labour, subcontractor, and equipment availability aligns with project schedules and execution plans.
  • Manage project budgets, forecast costs, and ensure financial performance remains aligned with approved targets.
  • Oversee change orders, claims, and contract variations, including evaluation and documentation support.
  • Act as the primary client contact and maintain effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Serve as the escalation point for client concerns, disputes, and contractual issues.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies to protect safety, schedule, quality, and cost outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 5–10+ years of experience in construction project management, including responsibility for budgets, schedules, client relationships, and project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of construction practices, contract administration, project controls, and safety management systems.
  • Proven experience managing multiple stakeholders including clients, consultants, subcontractors, and field teams.*
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage project teams and drive performance in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Experience with contract management, change orders, and claims administration is considered an asset.*
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project or Primavera P6) is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • PMP certification is considered an asset.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Valid driver’s licence with an acceptable driving record as determined by Michels Canada’s review process.
