Job summary

Richmond Country Club is seeking an Equipment Technician to lead the maintenance program for the golf course fleet. You will diagnose, repair, and service equipment, maintain records, manage parts inventory, and ensure Shop safety and efficiency on-site in Richmond, BC.

The role requires a Journeyperson certification or equivalent experience (3–5 years) with strong knowledge of engines, hydraulics, and welding.

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson certification preferred; an equivalent combination of education and extensive industry experience will be considered.
  • 3–5 years of equipment maintenance experience in a high paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, welding, fabrication, reel mower technology, and small engines.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain maintenance records, service histories, repair logs, warranty information, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Valid BC Driver's License is required.

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Golf Course Superintendent while leading the Club's equipment maintenance program.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance program for the entire golf course equipment fleet.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service histories, repair logs, warranty information, and equipment lifecycle documentation.
  • Manage the equipment maintenance shop, including cleanliness, safety, and WorkSafeBC compliance.
  • Track parts inventory, purchasing, and procurement to support seasonal operations.
  • Develop relationships with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers.
  • Evaluate equipment condition and advise on replacement, capital planning, and fleet investments.
  • Train Golf Course Maintenance staff on equipment operation, inspections, and preventative care.

We are looking for an experienced, motivated, and mechanically skilled individual to join our progressive Greens Department (Golf Course Maintenance team) as our Equipment Technician. About this Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, the Equipment Technician is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, repair, diagnostics, and preventative servicing of the Club's golf course maintenance equipment and machinery.

As the Club's equipment maintenance leader, this role oversees the daily operation of the equipment maintenance facility, manages the preventative maintenance program, equipment inventory, purchasing, shop organization, and equipment-related budgets. The successful candidate will support the Superintendent in ensuring the maintenance team operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to support exceptional playing conditions while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Report directly to the Golf Course Superintendent while leading the Club's equipment maintenance program.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance program for the entire golf course equipment fleet.
  • Excels at with mower set-up and after cut appearance to maximize.
  • Has strong administrative skills to maintain accurate maintenance records, service histories, repair logs, warranty information, preventative maintenance schedules, and equipment lifecycle documentation.
  • Manage the daily operation, cleanliness, organization, and safety of the equipment maintenance shop in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations and Club safety standards.
  • Manage equipment parts inventory, purchasing, and procurement while maintaining appropriate stock levels to support seasonal operations.
  • Track purchase orders, equipment expenses, warranties, vendor relationships, and maintenance budgets while ensuring cost-effective purchasing practices.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, dealers, and external service providers.
  • Evaluate equipment condition and provide recommendations regarding equipment replacement, capital planning, and future fleet investments.
  • Train and educate Golf Course Maintenance staff on equipment operation, daily inspections, cleaning procedures, safe operation, and preventative care practices.
  • Promote a proactive culture of equipment care and accountability among all equipment operators.
  • Work within established maintenance schedules while adapting priorities to changing weather conditions, tournament preparation, and operational demands.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, crouch, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to safely operate shop equipment, welding equipment, grinders, hoists, diagnostic tools, and other specialized repair equipment.
  • Ability to perform repetitive mechanical tasks requiring manual dexterity and attention to detail.
Qualifications
  • Journeyperson certification as an Equipment Technician, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Agricultural Equipment Technician, Automotive Service Technician, or an equivalent mechanical trade is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and extensive industry experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of equipment maintenance experience in a high paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, welding, fabrication, reel mower technology, and small engines.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to train, educate, and support equipment operators.
  • Professional, reliable, punctual, safety-conscious, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Golf Course Maintenance team.
  • Valid BC Driver's License required.
More information on the role
  • Hours of Work: Full-time 40 hours per week, with seasonal flexibility based on operational requirements.
  • General Shift Timings: Early mornings, generally beginning between 5:00 and 7:00 a.m., with occasional weekends, statutory holidays, and emergency call-ins during peak golf season.
  • Job Environment: Primarily on-site within the equipment maintenance facility, with occasional work throughout the golf course.
  • Ability to Commute: Richmond, BC – reliable transportation is required as public transit service to the maintenance facility is limited. Complimentary staff parking is provided.
  • Eligibility: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
