The City of Kamloops is seeking a permanent, full-time Equipment Operator V – Streets to lead and operate a range of heavy equipment for road repair and maintenance. You will guide junior operators, enforce safe work practices, and ensure complex street operations run smoothly.

Based in Kamloops, this unionized CUPE Local 900 position offers a comprehensive benefits package and a competitive hourly wage of $39.592.

Qualifications

• Completion of senior secondary school or its equivalent.
• Class 1 driver's licence with air brake endorsement.
• Minimum 1 year driving tandem axle vehicle in city traffic.
• Minimum 500 hours on a grader for road maintenance.

Position Overview

Are you seeking an opportunity where you can directly impact the streets and local transportation around Kamloops? We are seeking a permanent, full-time Equipment Operator V - Streets where you will take on a lead role in operating and maintaining a variety of heavy equipment to support road repair, and maintenance activities. This position is responsible for completing complex street operations, ensuring safe work practices, and providing guidance and direction to junior operators and crew members. The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

• Completion of senior secondary school or its equivalent.
• Valid BC Driver's Licence - Class 1 with air brake endorsement (for operating a tandem with pup).
• Minimum of one year's previous experience driving a tandem axle vehicle in city traffic and confined spaces, including three months' experience operating a roller, loader, and backhoe for road construction.
• Minimum 500 hours of previous experience on a grader completing road maintenance.

This is a unionized position with CUPE Local 900; check out our Collective Agreement (2024 - 2025) for full details (ratified 2026 Collective Agreement coming soon). As this is a unionized position, all qualifications must be met in order to be shortlisted for the position.

Hours & Days of Work

7:00 am - 3:00 pm (summer)

8:00 am - 4:00 pm (winter)

Winter Shifts (from approximately November to May each year):

12:00 am - 8:00 am

8:00 am - 4:00 pm

4:00 pm - 12:00 am

12-hour winter weekend standby shifts required.
