Job summary

Nova Scotia Department of Public Works in Yarmouth seeks an Equipment Operator Trainer for a year-round, zone 34 position. You will onboard and develop Equipment Operators, coordinate training plans, and ensure documentation accuracy while maintaining safety standards and operational readiness.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least five years of heavy equipment experience, plus a valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement. Travel within zones may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment in all seasons and conditions.
• Strong safety awareness and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and support Equipment Operator development, document progress, provide feedback.
• Coach new and existing Operators on safe tasks such as plowing, ditching, ice blading, and grading.
• Ensure safety protocols, inspections, and proper use of attachments.
• Prepare equipment for training with inspections, fueling, and attachments.
• Provide hands-on instruction to ensure proficiency in operation.
