Job summary

County of Brant is seeking a skilled Road Maintenance Operator to perform a range of tasks using light to heavy equipment, including snow plowing and winter control. The position supports Public Works operations in Ontario and involves independent work within a team environment.

Responsibilities include operating equipment, performing maintenance, and adhering to safety policies. Initial placement to be determined; full-time/ probationary rates apply.

Qualifications

• Secondary school education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Good technical and mechanical skills.
• Valid Class D license with Z endorsement with an acceptable abstract.
• Ability to operate light, medium and heavy equipment.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment.
• Good communication skills (verbal and written).
• Demonstrated safe work practices as per OHSA and County policies.

Reports to: Road Superintendent

Location: Initial Placement – To be determined

Minimum Qualifications:

• Secondary school education or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Good technical and mechanical skills
• Valid Class D license with Z endorsement with an acceptable abstract
• Ability to operate light, medium, and heavy equipment, including but not limited to standard transmission tandem dump truck, loader/backhoe, snowplow/sander, tractors, chainsaws, weed eaters, etc.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment
• Good communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Demonstrated safe work practices (in compliance with applicable legislation, i.e. Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7, County of Brant Health & Safety Policies & Procedures, etc.)

Assets:

• Experience with and demonstrated ability to operate road grader
• Knowledge related to Public Works

Duties:

• Operate a variety of light, medium and heavy equipment, power and hand tools to perform maintenance, repair, construction tasks and winter control operations as related to Public Works type activities
• Other relevant duties as assigned

Current Hourly Rate: $26.75/hour – Probationary Rate 40 hours/week
$33.16/hour – Full Time Rate
