Job summary

We’re looking for Equipment Custodians to join our Community Safety Department at the Burnaby RCMP Detachment! This is clerical and custodial work of some complexity performed in the RCMP equipment room. You will track, receive, issue and store a variety of weapons and police equipment; ensure equipment is in working order and examine for quality control purposes; conduct minor repairs; maintain an adequate level of equipment and supplies; identify malfunctioning equipment and supplies to be ordered; prepare equipment kits for members and prepare and maintains records, files and reports. You will be required to exercise independence of judgment and action within established guidelines. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, supplemented by courses related to the work, plus sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the various types and use of weapons and police equipment required by RCMP members; of safety regulations for the handling of weapons and related police equipment. Ability to use software including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software to access and/or create spreadsheets and maintain statistics and related data; to work under minimal supervision, to exercise sound judgement in accordance with applicable rules, regulation, and policies; to multi-task and to perform effectively during peak periods. Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and items. A BC Driver’s Licence is required for this role, as well as the ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance. A Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) is considered an asset for this role.

Pay Rate: $31.58 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits

Location: Burnaby RCMP Detachment

Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work, which may include on-call shifts. Typical shifts will be from Monday to Sunday between the hours of 4:30 am - 8:00 pm.
