Job description

Who We Are:

STC is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rails and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.

As part of this project, we are currently looking for an Environmental Technician to join our team to assist with on-site environmental monitoring, data collection and interpretation, equipment maintenance, incident investigation, and report preparation.

What You Will Do:

  • Assist the Environmental Team in managing all environmental issues associated with the Project on a day-to-day basis, including overseeing the environmental monitoring and follow-up program in accordance with the Environmental Reference Documents, Additional Environmental Reports, Applicable Law and any applicable Permits, Licenses, Approvals and Agreements.
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot environmental monitoring equipment (e.g., air quality, noise, and vibration monitors) and monitor software systems.
  • Perform field sampling and data collection related to noise, vibration, and air quality.
  • Support weekly environmental monitoring and reporting, including organizing data and preparing weekly environmental monitoring reports.
  • Relocate and maintain environmental monitoring stations as needed to support construction activities.
  • Assist with evaluating and implementing mitigation measures and documenting site conditions.
  • Coordinate calibration, relocation or removal of environmental monitoring equipment with the construction team, subcontractors, and the client.
  • Review and prepare weekly construction noise and vibration and air quality management reports.
  • Recommending mitigation measures and responding to inquiries from the client.
  • Support the Environmental Management Team in ensuring compliance with permits, approvals, and project-specific environmental requirements.
  • Attend construction and environmental meetings as required.
  • Participate in environmental audits and inspections.
  • Conduct regular environmental inspections to assess compliance with regulatory requirements, identify potential issues, and ensure implementation of mitigation measures on-site.
  • Communicate environmental requirements to project staff and subcontractors through maintenance of the environmental orientation and subcontractor kick-off meetings.
  • Additional tasks as defined by the Environmental Manager, Environmental Director, or Environmental Compliance Officer.

Experience You Will Bring:

  • 2–3 years of experience in environmental fieldwork or monitoring, ideally with respect to noise and vibration and air quality on infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Diploma or degree in any field of Engineering, Environmental Technology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with noise/vibration/air quality monitoring equipment/software and field sampling techniques.
  • Basic understanding of environmental regulations and best practices in Ontario.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in variable site conditions.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license (Class G) and access to personal vehicle for travel between sites required

Please note that is a 100% onsite role.

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive pay, comprehensive health, and dental benefits, and RRSP matching plans.
  • The opportunity to work on one of the most exciting rail projects in Toronto.
  • A wide array of learning and development opportunities.
  • A work environment focused on health and safety.
