The location in Skookumchuck, British Columbia, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Environmental Supervisor. This job is full-time permanent.

The Environmental Supervisor will develop and steward site systems & processes required to fulfill Corporate Environmental Policies, government legislation, and meet municipal by-laws or public concerns to minimize environmental impact in line with Corporate objectives in compliance with Skookumchuck Pulp Inc., principles, and guidelines.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Promote and provide a safe workplace and support the health and safety program.
  2. Monitor emerging environmental issues and changes in legal requirements via liaison with regulatory agencies and industry groups.
  3. Ensure effective communication and compliance (monitoring, testing, establishing QA/QC procedures, and/or reporting) required by Federal / Provincial environmental legislation, Certificates-of-Approval, and regulations concerning air, effluent, stormwater, groundwater (landfill), wastes, and hazardous materials.
  4. Apply for and negotiate certificates of approval.
  5. Ensure required environmental licenses and permits for the site are procured and maintained current.
  6. Establish, maintain, and monitor the application of systems for emissions monitoring, measurement, and reporting including equipment calibration, repair, and wastes.
  7. Manage the disposition of industrial and hazardous waste.
  8. Monitor process operations to ensure compliance and minimize environmental impacts.
  9. Ensure the timely, accurate, and appropriate flow of environmental information across the mill, including daily reporting and monthly and quarterly updates.
  10. Prepare and meet department budget and explain variances with appropriate corrective actions as required.
  11. Ensure the effective implementation of EMS (ISO 14001), EMP to ensure mill compliance and registration.
  12. Inform the Technical Manager of potential major environmental problems and propose solutions.
  13. Support the delivery of environmental training.
  14. Keep up to date with new environmental technology, policies, and management methods.
  15. Advise other sites or the Corporate Group of environmental changes or opportunities for improvement.
  16. Support ISO (14001) audits and provide recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications/Skills and Experience

  • Degree/Diploma in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or other relevant fields.
  • Five (5) years of direct experience in environmental engineering/management.
  • Experience in environmental permitting.
  • Experience in regulatory agency interface.
  • Knowledge of Water and Air programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Salary range for this position is $115,000 to $125,000 depending on skills and experience.
