Job summary

PCL Constructors Inc. is seeking an Environmental Specialist Student for our North American Headquarters in Edmonton, AB, available for 4 - 12 months starting January 2027.

Reporting to the Director, HSE Programs, you will help build and refine our Environmental Management System. This student role offers hands-on exposure to ISO 14001 readiness, risk assessments, regulatory research, data analysis, and collaboration with operations to improve sustainability and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Foundational knowledge of environmental management systems and sustainability.
  • Understanding of environmental aspects, impacts, risk assessment.
  • Interest in ISO 14001 standards.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
  • Collaborative and initiative-driven in a continuous improvement environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support development, implementation, and improvement of PCL's Environmental Management System.
  • Assist with ISO 14001 certification readiness, including documentation development, gap assessments, and action tracking.
  • Participate in environmental risk assessments and identification of aspects and impacts.
  • Support environmental compliance by researching regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of environmental procedures, standards, training materials, and communications.
  • Collect, analyze, and report environmental performance data.
  • Support environmental inspections, audits, investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to improve environmental performance.
  • Contribute to sustainability initiatives related to waste reduction, pollution prevention, resource conservation, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain environmental records and documentation.

We are seeking an Environmental Specialist Student, for our North American Headquarters district in Edmonton, AB, that is available for 4 - 12 months starting in January 2027. This position will be under the direct supervisor of the Director, HSE Programs.

  • Supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of PCL's Environmental Management System.
  • Assisting with ISO 14001 certification readiness, including documentation development, gap assessments, and action tracking.
  • Participating in environmental risk assessments and the identification of environmental aspects and impacts.
  • Supporting environmental compliance by researching regulatory requirements and monitoring applicable obligations.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of environmental procedures, standards, training materials, and communications.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and reporting environmental performance data to support sustainability objectives and decision-making.
  • Supporting environmental inspections, audits, investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Collaborating with operational teams and business partners to improve environmental performance and reduce environmental impacts.
  • Contributing to sustainability initiatives related to waste reduction, pollution prevention, resource conservation, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintaining environmental records and documentation to support compliance, audits, and management system requirements.
What you will bring to the role:
  • Foundational knowledge of environmental management systems, environmental compliance, and sustainability principles.
  • Understanding of environmental aspects and impacts, risk assessment, and pollution prevention practices.
  • Interest in environmental management standards, including ISO 14001.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn in a collaborative, continuous improvement environment.
