Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a dependable Environmental Services staff member trained to work in healthcare settings, responsible for cleaning and disinfecting patient areas and offices according to AHS standards. Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a dependable, highly motivated individual for the position of Environmental Services (cleaner/housekeeper trained to work in healthcare) who is dedicated to both high-quality work and safety. AHS will provide the necessary training to safely clean and disinfect patient rooms, clinical areas, office areas, and other common staff/public areas in accordance with Alberta Health Services standards and practices. Shift schedules may include a combination of day, evening, nights, and weekend shifts. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.
As an Environmental Services staff, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with cleaning and disinfecting clinical and non-clinical healthcare environments within a hospital or facility. Your typical duties may include sweeping, mopping and vacuuming; restocking supplies in bathroom facilities; stripping linen and making beds; operating industrial cleaning equipment for floor maintenance and restoration; thorough washing of ceilings and windows; emptying hazardous waste; and replenishing cleaning supplies and linens. You will also be responsible for identifying and reporting potential hazards to your Working Leader and you may also provide training or orientation to Environmental or Laundry staff.

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Knowledge and operation of computers and smartphones. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift up to 25 lbs and push and pull up to 50 lbs of force.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, able to follow oral and written instruction. Basic knowledge and operation of a computer and a smart phone. Must be dependable and able to work with minimal supervision. This role also requires you to work on short notice.
Cleaning in a hospital or Long-Term Care environment would be an asset. Preference given to candidates with open availability to cover varying operational hours.
