Job description

To work as part of the MEMS Reclamation & Construction team in the preparation and execution of site assessments and reclamation projects in Western Canada, including Native Prairie. Responsibilities include assessing projects according to Alberta and BC regulations, conducting Detailed Site Assessments, Phase II and III ESAs, supervising reclamation projects, and technical report writing. The role involves a mix of office and field work (30/70 split) in a demanding consultative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Planning, organizing, and implementing field programs; evaluating collected information; preparing professional reports; ensuring quality assurance and control.
  2. Completing file reviews, developing draft work plans, and estimating costs based on project needs.
  3. Conducting field activities such as site inspections, monitoring, detailed assessments, reclamation, and groundwater assessments.
  4. Coordinating with contractors and Project Managers for ESA, remediation, and reclamation projects, with considerations for Native Prairie settings.
  5. Tracking costs accurately and reporting on changes promptly.
  6. Ensuring safety requirements are met, and organizing field data and results for reports.
  7. Preparing various reports including site inspections, assessments, reclamation certificates, and ESA reports.
  8. Communicating effectively with team members and clients.
  9. Mentoring staff in field work execution, data collection, safety, and reporting.
  10. Supporting and promoting the development of the Reclamation and Construction Service Group.
  11. Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A reclamation or soil science degree or diploma.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of reclamation criteria, guidelines, and certificate processes.
  • Understanding of agricultural, forestry, and oilfield practices.
  • Eligibility for professional membership.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and ability to meet site access requirements.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Understanding of agriculture, forestry, oilfield practices, Native Prairie ecosystems, and erosion considerations.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Experience with driving, hauling, and operating ATVs.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and travel as needed.
  • Strong organizational skills and safety attitude.

Working Conditions:

  • Approximately 70% of work at client sites, including remote locations.
  • Office work with prolonged computer use.
  • Field work may involve carrying sampling equipment and physical activity.
  • Long hours, travel, and varying shifts, including nights.
