Job description

Join to apply for the Environmental Scientist role at Millennium EMS Solutions Ltd.

To work as part of MEMS Reclamation & Construction team in the preparation and execution of site assessments and reclamation projects in Western Canada, including Native Prairie. Responsibilities include assessing reclamation projects according to Alberta and BC regulations, conducting Detailed Site Assessments, Phase II and III ESAs, supervising reclamation projects, and technical report writing. The role involves a mix of office and field work (30/70 split) in a demanding consultative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Planning, organizing, and implementing field programs, evaluating data, preparing reports, and ensuring quality assurance and control.
  2. Reviewing files, developing work plans and cost estimates based on project needs.
  3. Conducting field programs such as site inspections, assessments, reclamation, and groundwater assessments.
  4. Coordinating with contractors and Project Managers for ESA, remediation, and reclamation projects, especially Native Prairie settings.
  5. Tracking field costs and reporting on change orders.
  6. Ensuring safety, organizing field data, interpreting results, and report writing.
  7. Preparing various technical reports and applications.
  8. Communicating effectively with team members and contractors.
  9. Mentoring staff in field work, data collection, safety, and reporting.
  10. Supporting and promoting the Reclamation and Construction Service Group.
  11. Performing other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
  1. A reclamation-related Bachelor’s degree or Diploma.
  2. 1-2 years of relevant experience, especially in the oil and gas industry, is preferred.
  3. Knowledge of Reclamation Criteria, Guidelines, and certificate processes.
  4. Understanding of agricultural, forestry, and oilfield practices.
  5. Eligibility for professional membership.
  6. Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and ability to meet site access requirements.
Other Skills and Knowledge
  1. Understanding of agriculture, forestry, oilfield practices, and Native Prairie ecosystems.
  2. Excellent communication skills.
  3. Ability to work independently or in teams.
  4. Experience with driving, towing, and operating ATVs.
  5. Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and travel.
  6. Strong organizational skills and safety attitude.
Working Conditions
  1. Approximately 70% of work at client sites, including remote locations.
  2. Combination of office and field work, sometimes long hours, including evenings and nights.
  3. Physical ability to perform various manual tasks and lift up to 30 kg.
