Job summary

Canadian Natural is offering a student internship in regulatory coordination based in Calgary, AB (Head Office) with a second term in Fort McMurray, AB. Terms are 4 or 8 months, starting May 2027, with a safety-sensitive environment and 5/2 or 4/3 shift options.

You will assist with regulatory applications, data compilation, and stakeholder engagement, helping regulate permitting and environmental compliance alongside industry leaders.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a 3rd or 4th year program in Engineering, Science, Forestry or Environmental Science or equivalent.
  • Driver's license may be required as per location; valid license preferred.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to manage multiple submissions.

Responsibilities

  • Support preparation of regulatory applications, reports, and regulator information requests.
  • Assist data compilation and basic analysis for regulatory submissions.
  • Contribute to documentation for Indigenous consultation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Help prepare materials for communication with Indigenous communities and other stakeholders.
  • Support regulatory/environmental activities and track compliance conditions.
  • Monitor regulatory updates to communicate changes in requirements.

You will assist with the regulatory coordination of information from project team members and consultants for the preparation of Applications/Authorization/Plans and with the preparation of project information for presentation to regulators and stakeholders. You can contribute to the success of Canadian Natural’s operations by understanding and explaining leading edge environmental regulations.



  • Job location: Calgary, AB – Head Office (4 months) & Fort McMurray, AB (4 months)

  • Shift schedules:

    • 5 days on, 2 days on, 8 hours/day (Monday – Friday) in Calgary

    • 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours/day (Monday – Thursday) in Fort McMurray



  • Term lengths: 4 or 8 months

  • Term start: May 2027

  • Safety sensitive position: Yes


Key Accountabilities:


  • Support preparation of regulatory applications, reports, and responses to information requests from regulators

  • Assist with data compilation and basic analysis for regulatory reporting and submissions

  • Contribute to documentation supporting Indigenous consultation and stakeholder engagement requirements

  • Help prepare materials for communication with stakeholders, including Indigenous communities

  • Support field and office-based regulatory/environmental activities, including tracking approval conditions for compliance

  • Monitor regulatory updates, publications, and decisions to help identify and communicate changes in requirements


What You Bring to The Role:


  • Currently enrolled in your 3rd or 4th year of a program in Engineering, Science, Forestry or Environmental Science or the equivalent of Political Science, Law and Society Program

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, knowledge of statistical programs would be an asset (i.e. Mini Tab software)

  • Attention to detail to generate high quality work requiring minimal revisions

  • Strong written communication skills to review and appropriately condense key elements of external correspondence and regulatory decisions

  • Strong organizational skills required to coordinate and schedule multiple, concurrent activities related to report and application submissions and reporting to stakeholders
