Job summary

Canadian Natural is seeking an Environmental Regulatory Student to support regulatory submissions, data compilation, and Indigenous consultation coordination at our Calgary head office. You will assist with preparing applications, authorizations, and project documentation under supervision.

This 4‑month term begins May 2027, for students in 2nd–4th year of Environmental Science/Engineering or Law and Society.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of an Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Law and Society, or related program.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail, organization, and collaborative skills in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Regulatory and Environmental Coordinators in preparing regulatory submissions for amendments, authorizations, notifications.
  • Support data compilation and statistical analysis for reports and applications.
  • Help prepare reports and documentation for Indigenous consultation and engagement requirements.
  • Assist operations and staff in managing project commitments for assets.
  • Support tracking of approval conditions to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with monitoring regulatory publications and project decisions for new requirements.
  • Support preparation for advocacy related to proposed regulatory changes.

As the Environmental Regulatory Student, you will assist thermal and conventional operations with the coordination of information from project team members and consultants for the preparation of applications/authorization/plans and support regulatory advocacy efforts on proposed regulatory change and application issue management. Additionally, you will assist with the preparation of project information for presentation to local stakeholders and regulators.



  • Job location: Calgary, AB – Head Office

  • Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday – Friday)

  • Term length:4 months

  • Term start:May 2027

Key Accountabilities:


  • Assist Regulatory and Environmental Coordinators in the preparation of regulatory submissions for amendments, authorizations, notifications for assets

  • Support in data compilation, statistical analysis for annual/quarterly reports, or applications

  • Help with the preparation of reports and documentation to regulatory agencies to fulfill Indigenous consultation and engagement requirements for regulatory applications

  • Assist operations and regulatory/environmental staff in managing project commitments for specific assets

  • Support tracking of approval conditions to ensure on-going regulatory compliance utilizing a software solution

  • Assist with the monitoring of regulatory publications and review of project decisions (e.g. approvals and court decisions) on a regular basis to keep department apprised of new requirements and changes to applicable regulatory requirements

  • Support preparation for advocacy efforts related to proposed regulatory change and application issues

  • Currently enrolled in your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of a recognized Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Law and Society, or related program

  • Attention to detail, organized, collaborative, and thrives in a fast-paced environment
