Environmental Services Full Time Peterborough, ON

D.M. Wills Associates Limited is in search of an Environmental Planning Technologist to join our Environmental Services team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with multi-disciplinary teams on various projects, mainly Provincial and Municipal Environmental Assessments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with other members of the Environmental Services Department and Wills’ project managers to carry out Environmental Assessments. These tasks include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting with the preparation of consultation plans/contact lists/letters/notices, including government, regulatory agencies, and Indigenous Communities.
  • Assisting with the preparation of Environmental Assessment reporting documentation.
  • Assisting with proposals for a variety of Class EA and permitting and approval assignments.
  • Supporting consultation activities with project stakeholders including clients and government agencies and maintain open, transparent communication, answering inquiries and addressing concerns, as required.
  • Assisting with the preparation of public consultation events, including Public Information Centres and Open Houses.
  • Attendance and follow up of public consultation events.
  • Liaising with internal and external contacts, including attending, and participating in project-related meetings, recording meeting minutes, providing progress reports on deliverables, and other duties.
  • Staying current and knowledgeable on procedures, policies, requirements, and regulations, and remaining informed of any changes and the related effects on current and future projects.
  • Understanding and assessing the applicability of relevant local, provincial, and federal government regulations on an individual project basis.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-year degree/diploma in Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of demonstrated experience completing the essential duties and responsibilities noted above.
  • Clear understanding of the municipal and provincial MTO, MNR, and Conservation Authorities Class Environmental Assessment requirements.
  • Knowledge of planning and engineering theory, concepts and regulations related to field of work.
  • Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal regulations and legislation.
  • Knowledge of various disciplines relevant to watershed planning, natural hazard management, environmental management, and ability to communicate with professionals in related fields.
  • Understanding of environmental provincial and federal permitting processes as they pertain to the infrastructure and land development sectors with demonstrated relevant experience.
  • Ability to contribute to professional reports and presentations.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent work ethic and ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including MS Project, and internet research applications.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret policy and legislation.
  • Demonstrated time management skills to meet project timelines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service during the consultation process by informing stakeholders and responding to inquiries in a knowledgeable and timely manner.
  • Experience with GIS is an asset.
  • Ability to stay focused and/or redirect focus when working in a fast paced and, everchanging work environment.
  • Must possess a valid Class G driver’s license.
