Environmental Field Technologist

D.M. Wills Associates Limited is in search of an Environmental Field Technologist to join the Environmental Monitoring and Management group in our Environmental Services Department. At Wills, our team of environmental professionals address increasingly complex regulatory compliance requirements faced by the infrastructure, construction, and land development sectors. The growing Environmental Services Department provides a wide range of multi-disciplinary services and has achieved success by effectively navigating the regulatory requirements on behalf of Wills’ valued clients.

Reporting to the Environmental Monitoring and Management Group Leader, you will complete fieldwork, site investigation and testing, and report-related duties such as data entry, data interpretation, and assisting in the preparation of technical reports for senior review.

This job is well suited for an Environmental Technology graduate with a desire to learn more about Environmental Monitoring and Management services.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of soil classification systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word) and GIS.
  • Ability to analyze and organize laboratory data for soil, water, and other samples, and compare against applicable standards (O. Reg. 153/04, ODWS, or other).
  • Ability to summarize and document field observations and data in organized field notes, and incorporate into technical reports (test pit logs, sampling notes, field measurements, photographs, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience with soil, groundwater and surface water sampling methods and required equipment.
  • Familiarity with sampling protocols for designated substances.
  • Strong communication skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Experience supervising and coordinating borehole drilling, well construction, excavation, utility location contractors, as well as analytical laboratories.
  • Understanding of the responsibilities in the Ontario Health and Safety Act and Regulations, including personal protection equipment requirements, and the ability to work safely around heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with surveying equipment (Total Station and GPS) to obtain elevation data for boreholes, test pits, and other site features based on a known benchmark.
