Position Overview
District Overview

Eastern Canada District's projects include highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind-power plants, dams & industrial. We serve the construction and mining industries and operate in Eastern Canada.

Location

This position is based in Oakville, Ontario

Responsibilities
  • Lead the environmental compliance for a project or district.
  • Identify, assess and reduce environmental risks to the company.
  • Develop and update environmental plans.
  • Perform and oversee field inspections and monitoring (water, quality, underwater noise etc.).
  • Identify wetland and sensitive environmental areas for protection and fencing in advance of construction activities.
  • Monitor, forecast and communicate environmental costs at the project level.
  • Develop and conduct environmental protection and awareness training to staff at all levels.
  • Function as a principal technical advisor and coordinator for environmental issues.
  • Coordinate with relevant crews on their work locations, material needs, quantities and invoices.
  • Interpret and apply environmental specifications and drawings avoiding and minimizing adverse effects to the natural environment and local communities.
  • Identify, document, report and develop corrective actions for environmental incidents.
  • Participate in project audits (both internal and external).
  • Prepare project and Kiewit required reports and communication of environmental risks to project management.
  • Liaise with environmental agencies and attend field visits with client and regulatory agencies.
  • Liaise with the clients; providing them design information, schedule details, quantities etc. ensuring they are aware of any unanticipated discoveries, critical permitting and compliance issues.
  • Review requirements and prepare proposals and estimates for new contracts.
Qualifications
  • Ability to travel and relocate as needed.
  • Undergraduate degree in an environmental science or engineering field, or related.
  • 5+ years' experience managing design and construction environmental compliance for large construction projects.
  • Qualified Environmental Professional designation is preferred. Registered Professional Biologist (P.Biol. or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental legislation.
  • Pipeline inspection experience highly desirable.
  • Highly motivated and self-managed to get things done right the first time.
  • Effective and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organization abilities and time management skills.
  • Strong work ethic and willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Superior interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
