Job summary

A national leader in construction is looking for an Environmental Lead in Montreal, Quebec. You will support project teams in achieving and maintaining compliance with environmental legislation while promoting awareness and responsibility. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in environmental management and a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. The role includes leadership of environmental programs, overseeing compliance, and mentoring team members, with a focus on safety and teamwork. As the Environmental lead, you will play a key role in supporting project teams to achieve and maintain full compliance with environmental legislation, contractual requirements, and other project‑specific conditions and commitments. Your work will help promote a positive and proactive culture of environmental awareness and regulatory responsibility within your project team and across the Pomerleau family.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Environmental Director or Manager while independently leading your portfolio of projects.
  • Oversee the development of environmental management plans, permits, and all pre‑construction requirements.
  • Lead the implementation of on‑site environmental programs, including pre‑construction surveys, species rescue operations, water quality monitoring, noise monitoring, waste management and more.
  • Deliver or coordinate environmental training for project teams and help foster a strong environmental culture.
  • Supervise a team of Environmental Coordinators and collaborate with external consultants as needed.
  • Proactively identify environmental risks and drive effective mitigation strategies.
  • When required, act as a key point of contact for regulatory agencies, Indigenous groups and other external stakeholders.
  • Promote best practices in environmental protection and model strong health and safety behaviours.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, biology, geology or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in environmental management within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of federal, provincial and municipal environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Hands‑on field experience and the ability to mentor junior staff.
  • Experience on large, complex civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Availability to travel regularly across Québec, Ontario and Atlantic Canada.
  • Strong teamwork abilities, autonomy and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A valid ASP Construction card and driver’s licence.
