This is a contract role for approximately 12 months. Reporting to the Head of Project Management, you will be part of a team developing energy solutions for large business and institutional customers including electric vehicle charging, battery storage, solar PV and power generation. Your work will help unlock the full potential of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, driving the transition to a clean energy economy.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Preview projects and project sites before work begins to determine safety-related risks.
- Visit active project sites to assess ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance and create inspection reports for each visit.
- Work with project management teams and field workers to develop and implement solutions to safety-related issues on project sites.
- Develop, execute, and maintain health and safety plans, policies, procedures, processes, and tools in the workplace according to legal guidelines.
- Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
- Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.
- Conduct training and presentations for environmental, health, and safety matters and accident prevention.
- Monitor compliance with policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations.
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims.
- Review incident reports provided by contractors to ensure compliance with Ontario Health and Safety Act.
- Develop safety and environmental management performance metrics and ensure data is collected and reported consistently.
- Develop and keep track of safety training for all staff and subcontractors as required.
- Provide technical safety expertise at meetings with the client and other stakeholders on multiple projects.
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.
- Assist project teams in submitting applications for environmental permits.
- Lead the efforts to form a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) for the company.
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Degree or Diploma in safety management or relevant field.
- 5+ years proven experience as Safety Manager.
- Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines.
- Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies.
- Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability.
- Enjoys interacting and collaborating with clients, vendors, and diverse teams.
