Job summary

Pomerleau is seeking an Environmental Coordinator to support a major infrastructure project in Victoria, BC. You will help ensure compliance in a complex marine and terrestrial setting, guiding permitting, monitoring, and best practices throughout construction.

Responsibilities include developing environmental plans, delivering training, coordinating subcontractors, and collecting environmental data. A post-secondary degree is required, with QEP eligibility a plus, and bilingual ability is

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary program in environmental science, engineering, biology, geology, or similar field.
  • Experience in the environmental field, ideally in construction/industrial/tunnelling.
  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Experience in sampling and environmental monitoring.
  • Self-starter and team player.
  • Eligible for a QEP designation.
  • Fluency in English and French is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Project Environmental Manager and/or the Project Manager and/or the Regional Environmental Manager.
  • Develop, update and implement project-specific environmental management plans and permit applications, and assist in construction planning by ensuring environmental requirements are integrated into execution documents.
  • Deliver environmental awareness training to project personnel, including subcontractors.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, field kickoff meetings, and construction coordination meetings.
  • Monitor construction activities for environmental and regulatory compliance by documenting observations, good practices, improvements, non-compliance, and collecting evidence.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and consultants to ensure environmental compliance requirements are met.
  • Communicate with and support superintendents and managers with environmental compliance including remediation of deficiencies.
  • Execute sampling plans for soil and water following provincial and federal guidance, including sample collection.
  • Collect and track environmental data including water and soil quality and discharge/disposal volumes.
  • Respond to and participate in environmental emergencies and incidents.
  • Generate routine environmental monitoring reports, incident reports, and spill reports.

As an Environmental Coordinator on Pomerleau's Operational Support team, you'll play a vital role in supporting the successful delivery of a major infrastructure project in the Victoria, BC. Partnering with project teams, you'll help ensure environmental and contractual compliance in a complex marine and terrestrial environment, providing guidance and support on permitting, monitoring, regulatory requirements, and environmental best practices throughout construction.

What you will do
  • Report to the Project Environmental Manager and/or the Project Manager and/or the Regional Environmental Manager (reporting structure will depend on project assignment and allocation
  • Participate in the development, update and implementation of project-specific environmental management plans and permit applications, and assist in construction planning by ensuring that environmental requirements are integrated into execution documents
  • Deliver environmental awareness training to project personnel, including subcontractors
  • Participate in toolbox talks, field kickoff meetings, and construction coordination meetings.
  • Monitor construction activities for environmental and regulatory compliance by documenting the following: environmental observations, the implementation of good practices, opportunities for improvement, instances of non-compliance, and generally collect evidence in support of compliance.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and consultants to ensure environmental compliance requirements are met.
  • Communicate with and support superintendents and managers with environmental compliance including the remediation of environmental deficiencies
  • Execute sampling plans for soil and water, in accordance with provincial and federal guidance documents including the collection of soil and water samples.
  • Collect and track environmental data including water and soil quality and discharge/disposal volumes.
  • Respond to and participate in environmental emergencies including those that are both unplanned and uncontrolled and result in, or have the potential to result in, impacts to receiving environments.
  • Generate routine environmental monitoring reports, environmental incident reports, and spill reports.
This role could be for you if you have
  • Completion of a post secondary program (certificate, diploma, undergraduate degree, etc.) in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Geology, or similar field.
  • Experience in the environmental field, ideally in a construction or industrial setting or tunnelling project.
  • Working knowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental legislation, guidelines, and recognized Best Management Practices.
  • Experience in sampling and environmental monitoring
  • Equally a self starter and team player
  • Eligible for an QEP designation.
