Our team is growing, and as a result, WSP’s Earth & Environment group is currently seeking an Intermediate Environmental Consultant to join our Contaminated Lands team in Whitby, Ontario. Reporting to the Team Lead, Contaminated Lands – GTA-East, you will support our ambitious plans to enhance our service offering in the province through your work with a close-knit team of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff.

What you can expect to do here:

You demonstrate a “Safety-First” focus and act as a positive role model by:

  • Adhering to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate risks to all stakeholders.
  • Identifying and reporting hazards, near misses, and incidents.

Involved mainly in projects related to our Contaminated Lands services, including Phase I and II ESAs, site remediation, Risk Assessments, and Record of Site Conditions (Ontario Regulation 153/04). Your work will also support clients’ management of excess soil under Ontario Regulation 406/19. You will supervise and mentor junior colleagues, engage with clients and contractors, with guidance from the Team Lead and senior staff.

  • In the office: develop work programs, conceptual site models, proposals; manage projects from proposal to delivery, including scheduling, budgeting, client communication, and invoicing.
  • Prepare project documentation, coordinate subcontractors and field equipment.
  • Review data, interpret reports, conduct record reviews, and assist with data analysis and reporting.
  • Participate in client engagement, business development, and strategic planning.

In the field: supervise and train junior staff in soil logging, sampling, surveying, groundwater and surface water sampling, stream flow measurements, soil vapor, and indoor air sampling. Occasional field work may be required, performed efficiently and accurately, adhering to industry standards and regulations. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) are essential!

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in environmental sciences or engineering.
  • Eligibility for registration as a “Qualified Person (QP)” with appropriate professional certification (P. Eng., P. Geo). Strong candidates not eligible may still be considered.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in environmental site assessments, with strong regulatory knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for health and safety.
  • Willingness to spend time in the field supporting junior staff development.
  • Willingness to travel for short-term projects.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for local projects (reimbursable).
