Safety and Healthy Work Environment Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Safety and Healthy Work Environment Specialist to promote injury prevention and health & well-being among staff, volunteers, and patients. The role involves supporting programs such as musculoskeletal injury reduction, WHMIS/GHS, and other hazard prevention strategies, as well as health education and promotion initiatives. The successful candidate will administer safety programs ensuring legislative compliance and fostering a positive safety culture.

Employment Details:

  • Type: Temporary Full Time
  • Duration: Up to December 31, 2026
  • Location: Wilson Site (primary)
  • Hours: 37.5/week
  • Employee Group: Non-union

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor effectiveness of policies and prepare reports on OHS programs
  2. Analyze quality and outcome indicators
  3. Develop and sustain safety and health programs
  4. Communicate program availability and develop safety training
  5. Foster a safe workplace culture
  6. Assist in developing action plans for safety improvements
  7. Prepare statistical reports for stakeholders
  8. Apply metrics to assess program impact
  9. Collaborate within the OHS team
  10. Maintain confidentiality and compliance records
  11. Manage WHMIS/GHS programs and conduct audits
  12. Support development of monitoring reports

Safety Support:

  • Support OHS program development and improvement
  • Assist the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
  • Investigate safety issues and incidents
  • Coordinate environmental safety assessments
  • Develop safety standards and research best practices
  • Coordinate programs on employee health issues and wellness

Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or related field
  • At least 5 years experience in safety and health programs
  • Membership in a regulated health professional association
  • Membership in CRSP preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data-driven policies
  • Experience in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Excellent facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Self-motivated and courageous in driving safety initiatives
