Job summary

Ontario Power Generation is seeking an Environmental Advisor to provide leadership in interpreting environmental legislation and managing regulatory compliance for Nuclear Projects. JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of an Environmental Advisor.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Environment, Health & Safety, this position is responsible for providing expert leadership in advising Nuclear Projects and Functions by interpreting environmental legislation, providing field oversight, managing regulatory relationships, securing necessary environmental approvals and permits, and addressing requirements to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal environmental performance.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Environmental Legislation and Programs: Advise Nuclear Projects and Functions on waste management, effluent and emissions management, contaminated lands, spill management, soil and groundwater management, environmental compliance approvals, permits, biodiversity, and species protection, ensuring alignment with standards.
  • Field Oversight: Review environmental management plans, ensure policies and records are current and compliant, monitor and report on compliance and performance.
  • Technical Expertise & Support: Provide interpretation and advice on legislation, establish relationships with regulatory agencies, obtain environmental approvals and permits.
  • Regulatory Liaison & Negotiation: Negotiate with agencies (e.g., MECP, MNR, DFO, CNSC, TC) to secure and influence permit conditions.
  • Reporting & Data Management: Prepare compliance reports, develop data systems, communicate with leadership and stakeholders.
  • First Nations Engagement: Collaborate with Indigenous Relations to engage First Nations on approvals.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 4-year University Degree in Engineering or Science
  • 2+ years experience with environmental permits and approvals
  • Experience in environmental performance oversight and issue resolution
  • Leadership in coordinating environmental responses and performance improvements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

This position will move to OPG Headquarters at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, in Summer 2025. Until then, based in Pickering, ON.
