What You’ll Be Doing

The Analyst, Environmental Trading on the Commodities Trading team will learn to trade Environmental Commodities markets, including Carbon Allowances (CCA, RGGI, EUA and UKA), and Renewable Energy Certificates (both voluntary and compliance), Carbon offsets (both voluntary and compliance) as permitted in Canada by OSFI. Candidate will build client relationships related to permitted products and structures.

You will support the desk operations including end of day, end of month and end of year processes including building software to help automate these processes in both Python and VBA. Additionally, you will support the Desk Head in growing the business by adding new products to the CIBC “Approved Products List” through the Change Initiative Risk Assessment (CIRA) and Product Onboarding Workstream (POW) process.

You will become a subject matter expert on Environmental products to educate staff and to work with clients on transaction specific opportunities.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Client engagement – Communicating trade ideas and hedging solutions to the sales desk to support the client franchise. Effectively quoting clients and managing commodities market risk

  • Trading Strategies – Utilizing python, VBA and similar programming languages to develop trading strategies to automate processes and perform historical/time series analysis. Developing trading analytics including the development of spreadsheets

  • Internal partnerships – Working with various stakeholders in middle and back office to ensure best practices

  • You must be able to demonstrate knowledge of numerical methods / statistical analysis plus knowledge of option theory and be comfortable managing volatility risk
