Job description

Join to apply for the Environment Health & Safety Specialist role at GFL Environmental Inc.

As a key member of GFL’s team, you will be committed to providing a healthy and safe work environment for all our team members. Working closely with both our operational and corporate teams, the EHS Specialist will ensure that safety is prioritized in all daily activities.

Operations Support

1. Conduct onsite inspections to evaluate safe work practices.
2. Perform internal audits of work practices and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
3. Perform observation behavioral assessments, assisting in recommended corrective and preventive actions.
4. Educate workers about GFL’s safety policies, procedures, and standards.
5. Support external audit functions in assigned areas.
6. Maintain a culture of safety excellence through adherence to GFL’s Safety Manual.
7. Assist in investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions, with support from the Regional EHS manager.
8. Review, classify, and report on injuries, property damage, and environmental events.
9. Assist with safety training, including new employee orientations.
10. Maintain knowledge of safety theories, current regulations, and GFL policies.
11. Generate weekly safety talks (4/year).
12. Support conformance with regulations, laws, company policies, and leadership directives.
13. Demonstrate leadership and maturity when dealing with uncertainty.
14. Guide operations teams by providing constructive support for decisions.
15. Support occupational injury processes, including notification, documentation, and return-to-work programs.
16. Perform other duties as required.
