Job description

Area: Editing and Academic Publishing

MDPI is the largest open access publisher in the world, with over 400 journals spanning disciplines from the humanities to life sciences. Our mission is to foster open science and scientific exchange by providing high-quality peer-reviewed research to scholars worldwide. The English Editing Department plays a crucial role in this mission by ensuring all manuscripts are published with clarity, consistency, and grammatical accuracy.

The Role: English Editor

We seek meticulous and dedicated individuals with a strong command of the English language and an understanding of academic writing to support scholars in publishing their research. English Editors edit the language of peer-reviewed papers to meet publication standards. Successful applicants will undergo a probation period with in-house training from an experienced editor, with opportunities to diversify roles and develop expertise in new areas.

This is a full-time, in-office position based in North York, Toronto.

Responsibilities
  1. Edit scholarly articles submitted to MDPI journals to a publication-ready standard.
  2. Apply knowledge of the English language and the manuscript's context to make the content clear, consistent, and grammatically correct, while preserving the author's voice.
  3. Ensure manuscripts adhere to MDPI’s house rules.
  4. Meet tight deadlines and targets consistently.
  5. Take on additional roles, such as training colleagues and editing corporate materials.
Experience and Skills
Essential criteria:
  • Bachelor’s degree in any subject.
  • Expert knowledge of the English language.
  • Experience in editing, translating, or publishing.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and within an international team.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Professional experience in academic research or publishing.
  • Master’s, PhD, or equivalent qualification.
  • Familiarity with LaTeX.
  • Experience working in an office environment.
