Engineering Specialist - Tooling
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: College/Technical Diploma
- Experience:
- At least 3 years of related experience in a machining manufacturing environment
- Mechanical knowledge of tooling and related equipment for at least 3 years
- Proficiency in AutoCAD design tools
- Ability to read and interpret design drawings
- Fluent in oral and written language, with familiarity in technical language
Preferred Experience:
- Over 5 years of manufacturing experience, including machining, induction, and laser heating
- Experience with metal cutting tooling operations, coolant or MQL based processes
- Experience working with cast iron, aluminum, or steel machining
- Background in tool making and machining parts for powertrain systems
- Understanding of induction hardening and heating processes
- Knowledge of heat treatment processes before and after heat treating
- Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Leadership skills for team management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong mathematical skills

Responsibilities:
- Determine tooling requirements, including cost estimates and vendor quotations
- Procure necessary tooling and equipment
- Specify machine types, tooling, fixtures, and gauges needed for each operation
- Calculate take time and production rates
- Assist in designing special tools and coordinate equipment installation
- Manage engineering changes post-launch
- Work effectively with both hourly and salaried employees on tooling issues
- Develop and maintain tooling process standards
- Troubleshoot tooling issues and implement solutions
- Provide time studies for labor cost estimation and production planning
- Address customer and production issues to support process improvements
- Implement continuous quality and cost improvements using Kaizen and other tools
- Participate in early engineering phases for complex operations
- Perform general process engineering duties, including complex projects
