Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Building Operations Technician to support data centers in Canada. You will oversee maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, ensuring uptime for mission-critical servers and supporting facility operations.

The role requires working on site at our AB Airdrie facilities, with responsibilities across diesel generators, switchboards, UPS systems, and building automation. A Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada is required.

Amazon is currently hiring Building Technicians to support our data centers. The Building Operations Technician is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. The Building Technician serves as a technical resource to support Amazon within its data centers. Data center equipment that supports mission‑critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. Building Technicians are also tasked with driving innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities. They are Amazon’s front‑line respondents for electrical and mechanical issues affecting Amazon's availability. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand‑by diesel generators and related fuel systems, switchboards/switch‑gears, UPS’s, PDU’s, AHU’s, CRAHUs, CRAC's, pumps, motors, VFD’s, and building automation systems.

This position requires that the candidate selected obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

Basic Qualifications
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in relevant work
  • Can bend or twist the body into unusual positions while working
  • Can use hands to manipulate small wires and objects
  • Can walk on job sites in uneven terrain
  • Can work at heights and from ladders
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years of data center engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/ fiber) cabling
  • Experience in data center engineering
  • Can perform physical tasks all day without becoming overly tired

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life & AD&D insurance), Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and other resources to improve health and well‑being.
