Engineering Manager, Materia-AI

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team. This individual will manage and provide technical support to the technical engineering team across multiple initiatives, develop new approaches to solve ambiguous problems across the software development lifecycle, and may also manage budgets for projects, programs or products within the practice.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Engineering Manager, you will:

• Develop and execute a long‑term technology strategy aligned with organizational goals, preparing the team for scalable growth.
• Lead the adoption of advanced engineering practices and processes to foster innovation and efficiency across product development teams.
• Mentor and develop team members with a focus on building a pipeline of future leaders and preparing the team for organizational scaling.
• Facilitate strategic partnerships with cross‑functional leaders to ensure technology solutions meet broader business objectives.
• Drive the technical roadmap, prioritizing initiatives that enhance product value and customer satisfaction while managing technical debt effectively.
• Propose accurate estimations for project timelines and resource requirements.
• Hire and manage a team of skilled software developers.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure smooth project execution.
• Effectively delegate tasks and responsibilities within the engineering team.

• Influencing and articulating a vision for customers and product(s).
• Socializing and aligning a wide variety of cross‑functional stakeholders to strategy, vision, and roadmap.

People Management

• Demonstrating people‑leadership skills, typically for tactical or more junior level teams.
• Ensuring the team delivers on expectations, communicating clear goals that support impactful work against team OKRs.
• Setting goals around talent development and diversity and inclusion, demonstrating progress.

Sphere of Influence

• Leading multiple cross‑functional project teams.
• Balancing strategic and tactical focus.
• Serving as an excellent cross‑functional influencer.

Delivery

• Evaluating new technologies and participating in decision‑making, accounting for several factors.
• Applying knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications.
• Managing building enhancements within an existing software architecture and occasionally suggesting improvements to the architecture.

Business Acumen

• Displaying understanding of the project's value proposition for the customer.
• Applying critical, non‑biased and data‑based thinking to help make core directional decisions that move toward the forecasted future.
• Ranking the importance of initiatives to achieve team and business objectives, recognizing that some work will fall to a backlog for future prioritization.

About You

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in software development.
• 3+ years in a people leadership and product development leadership role.
• Ability to elaborate on or demonstrate experience bringing in transformations within process improvement and team development.
• Ability to identify and implement new technologies to improve upon product.
• Experience performing software development with Python development stack.
• Experience performing software development with AWS cloud development stack.
• Experience with an Agile development process is required.
• Experience performing software development with one of the following frontend technologies is preferred but not required: React, Typescript, Tailwind.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to foster an environment of collaboration and innovation.
• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organizational development, and team scaling.

Compensation

Eligible office locations include New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Irvine, CA; McLean, VA; Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in these locations is $109,000 USD – $203,000 USD. For other eligible US locations the range is $94,900 USD – $176,300 USD. For Ontario, Canada the range is $105,000 CAD – $155,000 CAD. A performance‑based bonus may also be available.
