Job description

About Us: the company is a leading North American applied AI company with extensive experience in building and operationalizing AI software solutions.

We are a company like no other – we believe in making small bets, failing fast, and being better together. We are looking for creative problem‑solvers who obsess about the customer to find wins across different industries.

We don’t hire for fit; we hire to add. We are looking for people who play our core values of being: Agile, Gritty, Humble, and Happy. If you’re passionate about AI/ML, thrive in a dynamic environment, and want to work with a diverse team of wickedly smart people, we want to hear from you!

Role Summary: The Manager, Software Engineering leads multiple developers across delivery pods with accountability for both technical excellence and team health. This role owns the architectural integrity of solutions across teams, removes engineering blockers, and ensures delivery meets quality and timeline commitments. The Manager is equally responsible for growing a high‑performing team and maintaining the trust of clients and internal stakeholders through transparent, reliable execution.

Technical Execution & Oversight
  • Guide teams on architectural decisions, set technical direction, and ensure solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with company standards.
  • Remove engineering blockers and facilitate cross‑functional technical discussions to keep delivery on track.
  • Partner with the delivery team to ensure on‑time, on‑scope delivery across all active projects.
  • Lead or actively participate in cross‑pod technical guilds (e.g., Frontend, AI/ML, DevOps).
People Leadership & Development
  • Run regular 1:1s with direct reports focused on career growth, performance, and wellbeing.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and support individual development plans.
  • Foster an inclusive, psychologically safe team environment where engineers can do their best work.
Responsible AI & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure models and systems are explainable, fair, and auditable throughout the solution lifecycle.
  • Uphold and champion the company’s Responsible AI guidelines and development best practices across all teams.
  • Manage end‑to‑end solution quality in partnership with pod leads, from design through deployment.
Stakeholder & Client Coordination
  • Communicate team progress, risks, and outcomes clearly to internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Maintain a strong communication loop with the delivery team to keep project requirements aligned.
  • Support pre‑sales and business development by providing low‑level solution architecture, demos, and technical Q&A on calls.
Resource Planning & Hiring
  • Conduct hiring interviews and contribute to candidate assessment for engineering roles.
  • Assist with quarterly resource allocation planning across pods.

This role requires a certain level of in‑office presence, based out of our Toronto or Calgary office locations.

What You Bring
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a technical lead or management role.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive architectural decisions and maintain engineering quality in a fast‑paced delivery environment.
  • Experience managing and growing engineers across different levels.
  • Comfortable engaging directly with clients and stakeholders – you can translate technical complexity into clear, confident communication.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML solutions and modern MLOps or software delivery practices.
  • A track record of championing responsible, ethical AI and inclusive team culture.
Benefits
  • Uncapped vacation for all full‑time, permanent employees.
  • Opportunity to make an impact and witness the value of your contributions.
  • Working with PhD and master‑level colleagues – endless conversations around the latest in machine learning and applied AI.
  • Competitive benefits for all full‑time, permanent employees.
  • Hybrid work environment with state‑of‑the‑art office spaces that ignite collaboration.
  • Slack access for team collaboration.
