Job summary

OpenTable is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead backend engineering for the Diner Platform in a Toronto-based hybrid role. You will shape architecture, own delivery, and guide engineers across distributed systems powering search, reservations, and events.

You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and partner with Product and Design to deliver reliable, scalable services for a global network of diners and restaurants.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating distributed, high availability backend systems.
• Strong system design fundamentals including APIs, data modeling, scalability, and resiliency.
• Experience with event driven architectures and modern backend stacks such as .NET, Java, or similar technologies.
• Mentoring engineers and building high-performing teams with clear accountability.

Responsibilities

• Lead critical backend engineering teams powering the core Diner Platform.
• Set technical direction across backend systems and architecture.
• Drive delivery by translating product goals into actionable engineering plans.
• Own full lifecycle from design to deployment and operation, including incident response.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to raise the bar on quality and reliability.
