Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years designing precision mechanical or electromechanical products.
  • Experience developing interconnect, contact, fixture, test, or high-reliability systems.
  • Strong understanding of contact behavior, wear, friction, fatigue, and lifecycle.
  • Materials coatings and surface treatments to boost durability.
  • GD&T, tolerance analysis, dimensional control, and precision manufacturing.
  • Proficient in CAD and producing detailed docs and drawings.
  • Experience from prototyping to production release.
  • Collaborates across cross-functional teams and leads technically.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Lead Engineer, Precision Interconnect Systems – Full-Time / Canada

An innovative engineering and technology company is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to drive the design and development of highly precise mechanical interface systems used in advanced testing and measurement environments. Based in Waterloo, Ontario, this full-time opportunity will focus on developing high-performance contact mechanisms, interconnect solutions, and precision assemblies that require exceptional reliability, repeatability, and durability.

This is a senior-level technical leadership role where you'll have the opportunity to influence the design of next-generation hardware platforms from concept through production. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, and developing products that demand extreme precision. Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 8+ years of experience designing precision mechanical or electromechanical products
  • Proven experience developing complex interconnect, contact, fixture, test, or high-reliability mechanical systems
  • Strong understanding of contact behavior, wear mechanisms, friction, fatigue, material deformation, and lifecycle performance
  • Experience selecting materials, coatings, and surface treatments to enhance durability and performance
  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, dimensional control, and precision manufacturing principles
  • Proficiency with modern CAD platforms and creation of detailed engineering documentation and production drawings
  • Experience supporting products through the full development lifecycle, including prototyping, testing, manufacturing transfer, and production release
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams to optimize overall system performance
  • Strong problem-solving, technical leadership, and communication skills
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience working with high-frequency, electronics, or advanced interconnect technologies
  • Familiarity with precision alignment systems, compliant mechanisms, or self-centering mechanical designs
  • Experience with reliability testing, accelerated lifecycle validation, and mechanical performance analysis
  • Knowledge of simulation tools such as FEA for stress, vibration, or durability analysis
  • Experience working with automated testing equipment, probe systems, or similar precision hardware
  • Background in tribology, connector reliability, surface engineering, or materials performance
  • Experience managing supplier relationships, prototype builds, and manufacturing qualification activities
