Job summary

Aviva Canada is seeking an Engineering Field Specialist to cover the GTA region. You will conduct equipment and jurisdictional inspections, support loss investigations, and assist the Engineering Underwriting team with technical information and quotes.

This role suits candidates with building systems, electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance experience who want to grow in a specialized technical field.

Qualifications

• 2 to 4 years’ experience in building operations, commercial facility maintenance, industrial maintenance, or electrical/mechanical work.
• Post‑secondary technical training, trades/apprentice training, or equivalent hands‑on mechanical/electrical experience.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Self‑motivation, strong organization, and commitment to meeting deadlines.
• Solid computer skills, including MS Suite and comfort working with databases.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct onsite inspections of insured locations to assess equipment condition, identify general risk exposures, and evaluate safe operating practices.
• Complete routine jurisdictional inspections.
• Assist with loss investigations by gathering claim information and supporting documentation.
• Prepare clear and concise inspection reports, translating technical findings into easy-to-understand language.
• Support repair approvals and follow-up documentation to ensure high standards of quality assurance.
• Provide survey information to support underwriting and the development of quotes for unique or complex accounts.
• Build positive working relationships with brokers and accompany them on site visits to support marketing and client engagement activities.

The Opportunity

We have an excellent career opportunity for an Engineering Field Specialist supporting the GTA region. Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, you will conduct equipment and jurisdictional inspections, support loss prevention activities, and assist with basic claims investigations. You will also provide technical information to our Engineering Underwriting team.

• Knowledge of ASME codes
• National Board Commission or a willingness to obtain if required.
• CIP or CRM designation

• National Board Commission certification
• TSSA jurisdictional inspection experience.
