Job summary

Kent in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking an Electrical Engineer to deliver high-quality electrical engineering solutions for energy and industrial projects from concept through detailed design and execution. You will work with multidisciplinary teams, prepare and review deliverables, support procurement and construction, and ensure designs meet client requirements and codes.

This role requires 5–8 years of experience and a P.Eng. with APEGA or eligibility, with Calgary readings preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, or eligible for registration.
  • 5–8 years of electrical engineering experience in oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, mining, power, or industrial sectors.
  • Experience delivering electrical deliverables for EPC/EPCM projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review electrical engineering deliverables for industrial and energy projects.
  • Perform design and analysis: SLDs, load lists, load flow, short circuit, motor starting, protection, cable schedules.
  • Develop equipment specifications and coordinate with multiple teams.
  • Review vendor documentation and support procurement and construction.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and client meetings.
  • Support construction, commissioning, and field engineering activities; ensure codes compliance.

About the job:

Kent is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality electrical engineering solutions across energy and industrial projects from concept through detailed design and execution. The successful candidate will contribute to multidisciplinary engineering teams, prepare and review electrical engineering deliverables, support procurement and construction activities, and ensure designs comply with client requirements, applicable codes, and Kent's engineering standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and review electrical engineering deliverables for industrial and energy projects.
  • Perform electrical system design and analysis, including:
    • Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
    • Load Lists
    • Load Flow Studies
    • Short Circuit Studies
    • Motor Starting Studies
    • Protection and Coordination Studies
    • Equipment Specifications
    • Cable Schedules
    • Electrical Area Classification
  • Develop specifications for electrical equipment including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, UPS systems, generators, motors, and lighting systems.
  • Coordinate with Instrumentation, Process, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, and Project teams to ensure integrated project execution.
  • Review vendor documentation and provide technical support during procurement and equipment selection.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and client meetings.
  • Support construction, commissioning, and field engineering activities as required.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable codes, client specifications, and industry standards.
  • Identify technical risks and provide practical engineering solutions to support project success.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, or eligible for registration.
  • 5–8 years of electrical engineering experience within the oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, mining, power, or industrial sectors.
  • Experience preparing electrical engineering deliverables for EPC or EPCM projects.
  • Knowledge of medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with CSA, IEC, IEEE, NEC/CEC, and other applicable industry standards.
  • Experience using ETAP, EasyPower, SKM, or similar power system analysis software is considered an asset.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and electrical design software is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
