Job summary

Nutrien, a leading crop inputs provider, seeks a Process Engineer at its Joffre, Alberta site (25 km East of Red Deer) to support safe, reliable plant operation. Apply chemical/controls engineering expertise, contribute to PSM programs, MOC activities, and collaborate with operations and maintenance to improve safety and performance.

The candidate holds a Bachelors in chemical/petroleum/controls, a P.Eng, 5+ years in an operating facility, and experience with process simulation and control

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, petroleum, controls engineering or equivalent.
• P. Eng in good standing with a Canadian professional body.
• 5+ years experience in an operating facility preferred.
• Experience with control system programming and documentation required.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day process engineering support to operations and maintenance teams for safe, reliable plant operation.
• Support Process Safety Management (PSM) programs including PHA, ORM, LOPA, PSI management.
• Coordinate Management of Change (MOC) activities from evaluation to closure.
• Troubleshoot process issues and optimize control strategies to improve reliability and safety.
• Provide engineering support to capital projects from concept to startup.
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical Services to drive continuous improvement.

This position is located at Nutrien's Joffre, Alberta site (approximately 25km East of Red Deer).

What You'll Do

• Provide day-to-day process engineering support to operations and maintenance teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation
• Participate in and support Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, including Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), operational risk assessments (ORM), Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and Process Safety Information (PSI) management
• Coordinate Management of Change (MOC) activities, including technical evaluations, risk assessments, implementation planning, documentation, and closure
• Troubleshoot process and operational issues, support process control strategy optimization, and implement sustainable solutions to improve plant reliability, safety, and performance
• Provide process engineering support to capital projects from concept development through commissioning and startup
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical Services teams to resolve complex process issues, support continuous improvement initiatives, and enhance plant safety, reliability, and performance

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution in chemical, petroleum, controls engineering or equivalent (consideration will be given to equivalent experience and training)
• P. Eng in good standing with APEGA, APEGS, PEO or equivalent Canadian body
• 5+ years experience in an operating facility preferred
• Experience with control system programming and documentation required
• Knowledge of process simulation, and process monitoring theory, design, and application
• Experience in data science applications including SAP HANA, MS Power Automate and MS PowerBI an asset
• Experience with software including Aspen HYSYS, Unisim, Delta-V and PI an asset
