Job summary

Ubisoft Montreal is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our engine programming team. You will write clear, high-performance code that supports long-term, scalable systems and cross-project compatibility.

The role requires at least five years of software development experience, preferably in games, with strong analytical skills, autonomy, and a passion for hardware architecture. This is a permanent, office-based position in Montreal.

Qualifications

  • Degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent training.
  • At least 5 years of software programming experience, preferably in games.
  • Strong knowledge of engine systems and architectures.
  • Excellent analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems with autonomy and resourcefulness.
  • Detail-oriented with interest in hardware architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Code in a clear and structured manner meeting performance, maintenance, modularity, scalability and compatibility requirements.
  • Be thorough and rigorous in the code structure.
  • Develop, refactor and optimize core systems long-term.
  • Understand project goals, identify needs and assess feasibility.
  • Analyze engine functions for alignment with goals.
  • Build and improve engine modules.
  • Design and implement new systems when needed.
  • Propose innovations inspired by other games/engines.
  • Maintain and optimize performance.
  • Support production features and systems.
  • Document work to transfer knowledge to other teams.
  • Perform other related duties.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities

  • Program in a clear and structured manner that meets performance, maintenance, modularity,scalabilityand compatibility requirements.
  • Isthorough and rigorous in the code structure.
  • Develop,refactorandoptimizecore systems focusing on the long-term.
  • Compile and understand the project purpose,identifydevelopment needs, and assess technical feasibility.
  • Analyze the engine's existing functions and see ifthey'rein line with the purpose.
  • Build and improve the modules that the engine needs.
  • Recommend improvements by designing and implementing new systems, as needed.
  • Propose innovative changes, drawing inspiration from other games or engines in the industry.
  • Maintain performance andoptimizesystems.
  • Support the features and systems designed for production.
  • Document work performed to transfer knowledge and help users (other teams) understand how the new systems and features work.
  • Perform all other related duties.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Degree in computer science, softwareengineeringor equivalent training.

Relevant experience:

  • At least 5years ofexperience in software programming, ideally in the video game industry or any other relevant experience.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent understanding of the technical specifications and architecture of different engine systems.
  • Excellent analytical and synthesis skills
  • Can solve complex problems.
  • Autonomy and resourcefulness.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • A keen interest in various hardware architecture.
