Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Working as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team in the Ambulatory Care setting and specialty clinics or units, such as Endoscopy, Urodynamics, Minor Surgical Plastics, and Cataract Sedation Nurse (as applicable to setting/site). The RN practices in accordance with professional standards and the code of ethics outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), applying best practices per organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines to provide competent, safe, and ethical care for patients and their families in various ambulatory care settings. Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate, and acts in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, CNA Code of Ethics for Nursing, and BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

Qualifications: Education, Training, And Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support, Level C.
  • Completion of recognized post-basic education in gastroenterology/GI endoscopy nursing and/or Urodynamics, OR
  • Successful completion of the gastroenterology nursing training program within 3 months of hire, OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in Endoscopy, Urodynamics, minor surgical specialty clinics, and procedural sedation.
Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to provide client and family-centered care through trauma-informed, cultural safety, humility, and evidence-informed practice.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an inter-professional team.
  • Knowledge of Endoscopy and surgical ambulatory clinic nursing practices.
  • Effective written, electronic, and verbal communication skills to facilitate inter-professional collaboration and a respectful workplace.
  • Understanding of other disciplines' scope of practice in relation to one's own.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data from multiple sources for effective problem-solving.
  • Capability to provide health education on healthcare topics, health promotion, and chronic disease management.
  • Time management, client triage, and resource allocation skills.
  • Knowledge of care planning, care coordination, and Primary Care programs and services.
  • Professional self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and development.
  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in operating related equipment and software applications.
  • Physical capacity to perform the duties of the position.
