Job summary

New Directions for Children, Youth, Adult and Families in Portage la Prairie, MB is seeking a Part-Time Direct Support Worker to join Regional Services. This role offers day/evening shifts with bi-weekly pay and aims to empower adults with intellectual disabilities to live more independently.

Responsibilities include supporting apartment management, medication administration, transportation, and daily living tasks. A valid driver’s license is preferred, with First Aid/CPR and background checks.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; post-secondary in disability services or related field preferred.
• Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities.
• Knowledge of FASD, Autism, Mood Disorders, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, and PTSD asset.
• Effective problem-solving and strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Willingness to show compassion, empathy, integrity, and promote self-advocacy.
• Valid First Aid & CPR.
• NCI certification and ASL are assets.
• Clear background checks required.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle preferred.

Responsibilities

• Empowering individuals to gain and maintain independent living.
• Assist with apartment management, liaise with landlords and EIA.
• Administering medication.
• Providing transportation.
• Perform household chores and budgeting.
• Ensure Fire safety and Public Health Standards.
• Help residents live their best lives as defined by the individual.
• Individualized focus towards health and appointment scheduling.
