Job summary

Kootenay Career Development Society in Nelson, BC, seeks an on-site Employment Advisor for the WorkBC Centre. You will perform the full scope of Employment Resource Advisor and Employment Counsellor duties, delivering client-centered services in the WorkBC Resource Room and in one-on-one sessions.

You will work with a diverse client base, provide job search support, workshops, labor market information, and individualized assessment, planning, progress monitoring, and case documentation.

We arecurrently seeking an on-site Employment Advisor to join our Nelson WorkBCteam.

TheOpportunity

The EmploymentAdvisor plays an integral dual role within the WorkBC Centre. Trained toperform the full scope of Employment Resource Advisor and Employment Counsellorduties, the Employment Advisor will work in both the WorkBC Resource Room,providing job search support and advice, and one-on-one with clients.

Working with adiverse range of clients, including individuals facing complex barriers toemployment, the Employment Advisor delivers client-centred, culturallyappropriate, and inclusive services. This role combines front-line support,employment workshops, and labour market information with individualizedassessment, employment planning, progress monitoring, and case documentationand management. The Employment Advisor collaborates with team members,employers, and community partners to ensure seamless, high-quality servicedelivery of the WorkBC program. We use a wide range of practical andsupportive tools provided by the WorkBC program, plus our own KCDS expertise.

Providinga true gold standard of client service is our highest priority; we take greatcare in assessing individual needs, identifying appropriate opportunities andresources, monitoring progress, carefully documenting client files, and doingour utmost to help our clients find and maintain sustainable employment in achanging economy.

QualificationsRequired
Skills andAbilities:

Excellent communication skills: ability todevelop and maintain a respectful, collaborative, and productive relationshipwith clients including making conscious use of sensitive and respectfullanguage

  • Orienting clients to the WorkBC Centre and programsand Assessing clients for eligibility and services and referring tocommunity services where appropriate
  • Assisting clients with job search activitiesincluding resume and cover letter development, interview preparation,computer application support, and job start activities
  • Facilitating employment-focused workshops, one on oneand in small group settings
  • Ability to discuss and explore client personalitycharacteristics, learning styles, employment needs and career developmentneeds and implement appropriate interviewing techniques to best assist aclient towards their employment goals
  • Highly proficient with computers, equipment andtechnology used to support clients in their job search; MS Officeprograms, other word processing applications, online applications,web-based assessment tools, social media platforms, web-based research tools,and web-based learning platforms
  • Ability to provide service in a variety of formats,in person, online, over the phone
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency supporting clients fromspecialized/vulnerable populations
  • Ability to work well independently and in a teamenvironment
  • Strong time management, ability to prioritize worktasks and organizational skills
  • Ability to accurately and objectively document clientinformation, enter data and track statistics

Operational andAdministrative duties including but not limited to

  • Ensuring seamless client service through clear andaccurate communications, scheduling, documentation, data entry and more
  • Maintaining WorkBC Centre computers/software, officeequipment, and hard copy resources to ensure smooth and timely operationsin a high-demand environment
  • Collecting and sharing current labour marketinformation with co-workers, clients, employers and community stakeholdersthrough various platforms
Other
  • Providing Outreach services as required
  • Act as point person for identified services,initiatives and projects as required
  • Promote KCDS and WorkBC within the community
Educationand Experience:
  • Bachelors degree or diploma in relevant field orequivalent combination of education and transferrable experience
  • 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Working one on one to supportclients
    • Coaching and mentoring clients
    • Working with individuals withcomplex barriers and broad range of cultural backgrounds
    • Building partnerships withemployers, community agencies and other stakeholders
  • Prior employment advising experience an asset
Additionalrequirements:
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
  • Must consent to a Criminal Record Check as required
  • May be required to work some evenings and weekends
Wage:

$26.00 to start, eligible for benefits at 90 days

PositionType:

Permanent, full-time (35 hours/week).
