Job description

Guide students, mentors and employers who will be the next CPAs.

CPA Ontario is not like other organizations

We operate at a rare intersection, both regulator and membership body, responsible for upholding the integrity of the CPA designation while supporting more than 105,000 members and 19,000 students across the province. Our work sits between business and the public interest, between the evolving demands of industry and the standards that make trust possible.

Careers built here tend to look different because the work itself is different. You are not simply contributing to an organization. You are helping shape a profession that touches nearly every sector of the economy at a moment when expectations, technology, and the nature of work are all being rewritten.

About This Opportunity:

As Employer Relations Officer, you will evaluate the work plans and experience reports submitted by CPA students against the practical experience framework, determine whether the experience meets established requirements, and provide clear feedback on assessment results. You will manage a portfolio of training employers, help mentors and organizations build training programs that hold up to scrutiny, and review student training programs and mentor eligibility for compliance. This is an opportunity for a CPA who wants to apply hard-earned professional judgement to the standard itself, working with students, mentors, employers and other CPA provincial bodies at the point where practical experience becomes a designation. This is a 12 - 18 month contract.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Evaluate work plans and experience reports submitted by CPA students against the established framework, determine whether the experience meets requirements, provide feedback on assessment results, and deliver advisement sessions to students as required.
  • Build and maintain relationships with the employers in your assigned portfolio who are training CPA students, ensuring a positive training experience for both employers and students and resolving training issues as they arise.
  • Assist employers and mentors in developing student training work plans for their organizations.
  • Monitor and review external audits of student training programs and mentor eligibility requirements for compliance.
  • Plan and execute projects and initiatives that strengthen stakeholder engagement, support regulatory compliance and improve process efficiency.
To Be Successful You Need:
  • A CPA designation in good standing, with at least five years of post-qualification experience.
  • Successful completion of a university degree or college diploma.
  • Experience in public accounting and corporate, government, regulatory and professional services environment, along with knowledge of CPA practical experience requirements, competency frameworks, or a professional education and credentialing environment.
  • Experience interpreting, assessing and applying competency-based requirements, professional standards, policies or regulatory frameworks, and reviewing documented submissions and reports to reach accurate and defensible decisions.
  • Experience in learning and development, adult education, stakeholder education or training delivery, with exceptional verbal, written, presentation and facilitation skills and the ability to communicate complex requirements to diverse audiences through consultations, workshops and webinars.
  • A proven ability to build and maintain productive relationships with students, mentors, employers and other stakeholders, with the customer service orientation to manage sensitive inquiries and resolve issues professionally.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience working with databases, case management systems or online learning and credentialing platforms.
Salary Range
  • The starting annual salary range for this position is between $103,700 - $129,600 per annum, based on your qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review.
Why Join CPA Ontario?
  • We support your well-being through industry-leading benefits, mental health resources, savings programs, and a sustainable approach to how work gets done.
  • We are committed to inclusion as a core part of how we operate, not as an afterthought.
  • We have a hybrid working environment, with three days a week on-site, complemented by 2 days of work-from-home time. We are intentional about that: the work we do benefits from being together. We want those days you work from home to be comfortable and offer a one-time bonus towards a home office when you start.
  • We invest in your growth through learning and professional development opportunities, stretch projects, secondments, and genuine paths for career progression.
  • We move quickly. The pace reflects the profession we serve; it can be demanding, but the work matters, and the team around you is invested in the same outcomes you have.
