Job Location: Moose Factory, ON

Position Summary:

The Emergency Shelter Worker provides direct support to individuals and families accessing emergency shelter services. This role ensures a safe, respectful, and supportive environment, addressing the immediate needs of shelter residents while promoting their transition to stable housing. Emergency Shelter Workers act as a bridge between clients and community resources, fostering empowerment and independence.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working in a shelter, social service, or crisis intervention environment is an asset.
  • Has experience working with children, youth, and families.
  • Has experience working within a shelter, social service, or crisis intervention environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage compassionately with diverse populations.
  • Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Knowledge of issues related to homelessness, addiction, mental health, and trauma-informed care.
  • Familiarity with community resources and social service systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with case management software is an asset.
  • Strong record-keeping and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Mental Health First Aide First Nations Certificate is an asset.
  • First Aid or willing to obtain is an asset.
  • Class G Driver’s License is an asset.
  • Vulnerable Sector check or Criminal Record Check is mandatory.

Salary: $22.00/hour as per funding

Duration: Term position: October 2025 – May 2026
